A 3-Day Itinerary for St Bees & The Western Lake District
March 3, 2026
The perfect plans for the perfect trip

Planning a short break in St Bees? Whether you’re visiting for a long weekend or a midweek escape, three days is the perfect amount of time to enjoy both the coast and the western side of the Lake District.
Here’s a simple itinerary we planned out to help you make the most of your stay.
Day 1: Settle In & Explore the Coast
Start gently with a walk along St Bees Beach. The wide stretch of sand and open sea views are the perfect introduction to the area.
If you’re feeling energetic, follow the coastal path towards St Bees Head, where you’ll be rewarded with dramatic cliff views and, in the right season, seabird sightings.
Finish the day with a relaxed evening meal and a quiet sunset by the sea.
Day 2: Discover the Western Lake District
Head inland to explore the western Lake District, which tends to be less crowded than the central areas. Scenic drives, peaceful lakes, and countryside walks make for a rewarding day out.
If you’re up for a challenge, you could even venture towards Scafell Pike, England’s highest mountain. For something gentler, choose one of the quieter lakes and enjoy a circular walk with beautiful views.
Returning to St Bees in the evening means you can unwind away from busier tourist hubs.
Day 3: Slow Morning & Village Charm
On your final day, enjoy a slower pace. Take a relaxed village stroll, stop for coffee, or revisit your favourite coastal viewpoint.
Many visitors find that staying in St Bees allows them to properly switch off and unwind. There’s no rush, no heavy traffic, just open scenery and fresh air.
A Balanced Coastal Break
This three-day combination of coastline, countryside, and comfort is what makes St Bees so appealing. It offers adventure when you want it, and calm when you need it.
Whether you’re walking, sightseeing, or simply taking time out, a stay in St Bees provides the space to enjoy the Lake District in a more relaxed and refreshing way.
